Let me start off with an apology to any friends who have sent me email in the past three weeks. I’m too scared to open my email and see how much is there waiting for me…but I will get round to it this weekend.
So without further ado, in chronological order (seeing that’s the way the remaining dregs of my logical brain works):
Saturday, 15th January 2011: Up bright and early, a litre of water guzzled down (and my usual ½litre mug of coffee), my Giant Rat and I scooted off to the local Path lab so I could finally have my non-existant veins poked and prodded for my thyroid test. After having both armies strapped and slapped silly by a skin, bone and poephol alone little nurse, she was finally able to insert a babies needle into the top of my left hand and extract a smidgen of blood for the test. Scooting out of the rooms like lightning, I jumped into the car and we were about to leave when hubby realised I had left my watch inside. Not being entirely daft, I sent him back to retrieve the offending time-piece in case Draculina decided she wanted a further offering from me. And then we were off to Gateway to have some fun.
And what a wonderful day it was too! We met up with Young Lady at the information counter, and after introductions and hugs, hubby went off to do his thing while we meandered outside looking for a place to have breakfast. Bad news for all us smokers too, all the restaurants with outside areas have now also banned smoking at the outside tables. Luckily Primi is situated around the corner away from the very, very long and wide open entrance to Gateway and their outside area is still smoker friendly. And their food and coffee is excellent!
We had a marvelous time, drinking swimming pool sized Caffe Lattes and chatting up a storm, laughing and exclaiming as our hands and arms emphasised different points! I think the waiters were quite bemused by our little table of two, especially as I think it took us nearly an hour to actually look at the menu and order our breakfast. As you lot know, what happens at a MOB stays at a MOB, so let me just tell you that Young Lady is a warm, caring Lady in the true sense of the word; and as beautiful inside as outside. It was wonderful finally meeting up with her face to face, and being able to spend a few hours with her.
Monday, 17th January 2011: My Giant Rat took me into work bright and early before he left for Richards Bay, and no sooner had I settled in front of my pc when we were called into an emergency meeting and informed there was a crisis at our Ulundi office. In terms of confidentiality clauses, I can’t say much more than that I’m afraid, other than to say I returned to my office to shut down my pc, grab my bag and was on my way to Ulundi. For the next fortnight I left home at 04:00am each morning, arriving in Ulundi at 07:30am and only left the office again at 19:00pm arriving back home at 22:30pm give or take a couple of minutes. My home pc stayed firmly shut off, as I used my work laptop doing reports, recommendations and submissions until after midnight each day before grabbing a couple of hours shuteye before it was time to get up and leave promptly at 04h00am again the next morning. And so it carried on, although the weekends inbetween I was at home but working with the exception of one Saturday night when my second hubby kidnapped me for a braai. A couple of hours of fun in great company and with superb food and wine, but one which saw me fall asleep sitting outside in company and being carried off and tucked up in bed! Something that will take me a long time to live down!
Monday, 31 January 2011: Arriving at work, expecting a relatively quiet week and being able to catch up on things, only to discover our Director in a flat spin when she eventually graced us with her presence as she had forgotten to let us know a team of auditors were here for the week. And so the fun began. Considering that we are waiting for the go ahead to move, 90% of files and records are already packed and boxes sealed shut. Oh, the indescribable joy of having to unpack boxes and Murphy’s law dictating that items needed are in THE LAST TWO BOXES….pfft!
But all’s well that ends well, as they say. I was personally audited as I have been directly responsible for appointing staff in various fields of work which carries a direct risk factor. Yay me for a squeaky clean audit.
Saturday, 05 February 2011: Off to take Marmee to the Pav for breakfast and shopping, and myself off to the bank to be issued with a new card *groan*. So with that, I shall love and leave you until later.
Ooooh, and lest I forget. Yay me for getting a call from my Doctor’s rooms to tell me my thyroid is perfect and I’m to stop taking my meds for now. A further blood test in three months will tell us how it’s progressing.
