Not so striking after all

It was with great delight that I read on the news last night that Utatu has accepted Transnets’ offer of a 11% salary increase and their members would return to work from midnight. (http://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/News/Utatu-accepts-Transnet-offer-20100521)

I cannot tell you how great the feeling of joy was within me, to know that the death threats will now stop, and hubby can safely return to work knowing that he doesn’t have to stress about either himself or Marmee and me.

It’s rather sad that Satawu (the other biggest union) has rejected the offer, even though their Limpopo branches wanted to accept it, and they have now called for a solidarity strike from other sectors. It’s the members of this union who follow blindly, no matter what the consequences may be to their respective families, and every member that we have spoken to have a blase attitude towards violence to non-striking workers. Sad indeed that life is so cheap these days.

But hey! Enough with the heavy thoughts on a beautiful Saturday morning! Time for me to go and jump up and down on the bed and wake up my Giant Rat.
